I’ve made a quick but extensive research for a webmail software to put on my server(s) whose the most important feature should have been simplicity of maintenance and use over completeness and number of features.
My effort resulted in the following list ordered by the previous constraint:
- RoundCube (beta software)
- IlohaMail
- uebimiau (also look here, apparently no more maintained)
- SquirrelMail
- IMP (based on Horde framework, included with Plesk web control panel)
- OpenWebMail (not installed but famous enough)
The winners are the first three, with the latter two not so actively developed in the last years.
So my choice fallen on RoundCube because, even if its beta status, it’s easily installed (even with multiple domains), has all the fundamental features for your users and is lovely in appearance (web 2.0 style).
There are many more webmail applications not cited here and I discarded it mainly because they seemed too old or not “trustable” at first sight (so I could have made some mistakes, sorry.)
What is the best web mail solution in your opinion?
RoundCube is my second favourite webmailer. My favourite one is BlueMamba. Did you know that both RoundCube and BlueMamba are based on IlohaMail? I wrote a little review of webmailers. Maybe you would like to read it?
